Concan the Kyrie Warrior
When the Valkyrie rose and war broke out across Valhalla, the Kyrie warrior Concan watched from his keep with concern, but did not intervene. His castle in the northern reaches of Laur, where snowy cliffs towered over icy shores, had remained a place of solace for decades. He was visited by both Jandar and Utgar in those days.
“Pledge your service to me, and all of Laur will be yours to rule,” Utgar had said. “You will have Bleakwoode’s might.”
“Utgar is a threat that could overwhelm all of Valhalla if we do not stop him, and I need your help, friend,” Jandar had said. “Nastralund is in need of your vigilance.”
Concan did not agree to either. His castle held a powerful secret—one of the very Wellsprings that Jandar and Utgar both sought—and he believed that both Valkyrie would say anything in order to have it under their sway. Ultimately, though, his friend Raelin convinced him that Jandar’s intentions were pure, and for the decade that followed, Concan’s castle became a pivotal objective in the war between Jandar and Utgar.
But much has changed. Utgar is gone, and in his wake there is Loviatäk, a leader from Utgar’s ranks who promises a new era for Utgar’s people and all those he has summoned. And although Concan is skeptical about this, Raelin has asked him to trust her one more time—trust that Utgar’s people can still be led in a direction that would benefit all of Valhalla.
To this end, Concan has become an important peacemaker within this New Alliance, traveling between Jandar’s and Utgar’s camps. It helps, he thinks, that there are other forces which they must now band together against. But when the fighting is over, will those who defended Jandar’s realms and those who surged to conquer them under Utgar have anything in common? Concan hopes so, or else the next era of war will harbor only deeper hatred and betrayal.
